In the 1899 we already had the possibility to visit the Voltiana Exposure, full of manuscripts and instruments of highest scientific importance, left us in inheritance by the scientist.
Unfortunately this collection was destroyed from a furious fire and the precious token were damaged. What remained was collected in an hall of the Civic Museum while, under the guide of collaborators and experts, the instruments were rebuilt and placed together with the original ones.
The new building, in neoclassical style, was commissioned from the manufacturer F. Somaini to the architect Federico Frigerio and was erected in 1927, in occasion of the first centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta.
The same year, the great world-wide Convention of physics was organised in the city of Como.
In the Temple is kept the sheet with the autograph of the physicists and scientists that visited it before its official inauguration that took place in July, the 15th, 1928. In that occasion many political and ecclesiastical authorities, scientists and university professors gathered.
In the same day the building, with all the furnishings and the books, was assigned to the Townhall of Como, except the original relics and the reconstructed ones that are property of the State.
