Fiumelatte - Varenna
Una gita interessante è quella alla vicina frazione di Fiumelatte, le cui case si vedono appollaiate ai piedi delle ripide pendici del monte Fopp, m. 1033, coronato dai ruderi del castello di Vezio.
Il piccolo gruppo di case, sorte intorno alla chiesa, deriva il suo nome dal corso d’acqua più breve d’ Italia, appena 250 metri dalla sorgente alla foce di acque candide e spumeggianti; altra caratteristica particolare del torrente è la sua regolare intermittenza.
Il fiume, infatti, compare intorno al 25 di marzo (Annunciazione e festa della frazione) e continua a scorrere fino alla Madonna del Rosario (7 ottobre e patrona di Varenna)perciò è detto anche fiume delle due Madonne.
Il Fiumelatte venne citato già come 'Fiumelaccio' nel Codice Atlantico di Leonardo da Vinci, incuriosito da questo fenomeno. Oggi questa intermittenza, si pensa, possa essere il troppo pieno di una cavità sotterranea del Moncodeno (Grignone), che nessuno è ancora riuscito a raggiungere.

The small group of houses, that rise around to the church, derives its name from the shortest river of Italy, hardly 250 meters from the source to the mouth; other particular characteristic of the torrent is its regular intermittence.
The river, in fact, appears around to the 25 of March (Annunciation and festivity of the hamlet) and keep on flowing until the Madonna of the Rosary (7 October and patron saint of Varenna) therefore is said also "river of the two Madonna".
The Fiumelatte was already quoted as “Fiumelaccio” in the Atlantic Code by Leonardo da Vinci, curious about this phenomenon. Today we suppose this intermittence can be the filling up of a cavity basement of the Moncodeno (Grignone), that nobody is still successful to reach.
This river is the shortest of Italy and perhaps also of the world.
